How to Clean a Leather Sofa

Step 1: Remove Everything From the Sofa

First, start by removing everything from the sofa. This gives you a much better access to the surface. Take cushions off of their frames or pads, pillows, blankets, and any other items on top of the leather furniture piece. If they're machine washable, take them off now and put them in the washing machine. Alternatively, just set them aside until after you've cleaned your sofa.

Step 2: Vacuum the Sofa to Remove Loose Dirt and Dust

If you have a fabric sofa, you can use a vacuum with a soft brush attachment to gently lift dirt particles from the surface of your leather sofa. Use a crevice tool to clean between the cushions and seams for leather sofas.

Step 3: Wipe the Leather With a Damp Cloth to Remove Excess Dirt

Cleaning with water will help remove any stains or marks on the surface of the leather. Use a microfibre cloth with warm water, soak and wring the cloth, and damp wipe the surface of your leather furniture. Do not use cleaning products unsuitable for use with leather as they may dry out the material and cause damage.
If there are any tougher stains on your sofa, blot them with a mix of equal parts warm water and white vinegar. Always test the solution on an inconspicuous part of your sofa before use to ensure compatability.

Step 4: Apply the Hg 4 in 1 Leather Cleaner

The best way to clean leather is with a leather cleaner. Leather cleaners are available in spray, wipe, or liquid form. The HG 4 in 1 Leather Cleaner is a great product. It cleans, conditions, and protects all types of leather and vinyl, rubber, and plastic surfaces.

Apply the HG 4 in 1 leather cleaner liberally to the surface of your leather sofa or chair with a microfibre cloth. Work from top to bottom in circular motions, covering all areas completely. Allow the cleaner to sit for ten minutes before carrying out the next step.

Step 5: Polish the Sofa

After ten minutes, it's time to polish your sofa. Take a fresh microfibre cloth (not the damp cloth you used previously or the cloth used to apply HG 4 in 1 Leather Cleaner), and polish in a circular motion. Do not apply pressure when polishing. This will give your sofa a nice finishing shine.

Step 6: Replace Cushions on Sofa

Replace the cushions back on your leather sofa and you're good to go! You sofa should have been brought back to life and looking it's best.

Tips to Clean Your Sofa

Here are some useful tips on how to clean leather furniture.

Choose the Right Cleaner

Leather is a delicate material and needs special cleaning products. If you use the wrong product, you may damage the surface of your leather furniture. Therefore, always choose a cleaning product like HG 4-in-1 leather cleaner specially designed for leather furniture. You can also hire professional cleaners if you do not have the time or patience to do it yourself.

Clean Regularly

Regular cleaning helps maintain the look of your leather furniture and prevents stains from forming. Therefore, t is important to clean your leather furniture at least once every month or so. However, this depends on how often you use it and where it is placed in your house. If you have kids at home, you should clean your furniture regularly as they can easily spill food or drinks on them. This may leave stains if not cleaned within a day or two after they happen.
