Norovirus: A Storm of a Stomach Bug

Norovirus in UK

Norovirus is rapidly spreading among children up to the age of four in the UK, with a surge in outbreaks reported since week 43 of this year, according to data from the UK Health Security Agency. The James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough recently had to close three wards due to its most significant norovirus outbreak in four to five years.

What Kills Stomach Virus?

To curb the spread of the virus, health officials recommend the use of bleach-based products for surface cleaning. We recommend something like Chlorine Tablets as just one tablet dilutes to a full spray bottle full of germ killing solution, and you get 200 tablets per pack. If you don't fancy doing any mixing yourself, Domestos Multi Purpose Bleach Spray is here to help and will kill germs straight from the bottle. Make sure to leave the solution on the surface for a good 10 minutes to ensure as much bacteria is killed as possible.

Dr. Lesley Larkin of the UK Health Security Agency emphasises the importance of staying hydrated to avoid dehydration, particularly in vulnerable individuals, as it can lead to hospitalisation.

While norovirus UK cases are increasing across all age groups in the UK, children aged 0 to four years are experiencing the highest levels in recent weeks. Dr. Larkin advises individuals who have been sick with norovirus or have a family member with the virus to refrain from visiting hospitals and care homes. Returning to work, school, or nursery should be delayed until 48 hours after symptoms have ceased.
