The Benefits of Using Concentrated Cleaning Products

Concentrated cleaning products have been gaining popularity recently and for good reason. We're here to let you know what they are and what the benefits are of using concentrated cleaning products in your home or business.

Ready to Use vs Concentrated Cleaning Products - What's the Difference?

A lot of cleaning products on the market are ‘ready to use’ – sold already diluted to the right strength, in a handy trigger bottle so you can get on and clean straight away.

Look on the back of a ready to use bottle and you’ll see that the main ingredient is almost always water. Concentrated products contain the same active ingredients as ready to use cleaners, just without all that water added.

Concentrated cleaning products are designed to be diluted at the point of use into individual bottles or your mop bucket, however you intend on using them. Some manufacturers sell or supply their own branded bottles with dilution instructions printed on or you can always reuse your own bottles and label them yourself (always thoroughly wash out bottles before re-using and never mix different cleaning chemicals together).

Dilution can be done either by using a pelican pump (you can buy different dosage options) to dispense the cleaning product and then topping up with water or by using a wall mounted dosing unit, great for larger operations with busy cleaning schedules. These wall mounted dosing units can be manual or automated depending on what you need.

So, now you know what concentrated cleaning products are.

But you’re already familiar with using ready-to-use products and they’re easy enough. Why switch to concentrated?

Cost Savings

This one is simple. Concentrated products will always work out cheaper than buying ready to use products. In a lot of cases you can still stick to the brands you know and love as they often do a concentrated version of your favourites, or there are some great alternative brands to be found if you do a little bit of research. Evans Vanodine’s range of EC products (short for Evans Concentrate) provide the same powerful cleaning as their popular ready to use products but in concentrated formulas that will save your business plenty of money in no time at all.

In fact, using concentrated cleaning products can cut your expenses down from around £2 (and upwards) per bottle to 5p per bottle! For example, Evans EC2 Heavy Duty Cleaner & Degreaser comes in either 1L or 5L concentrates. The 5L bottle gives you enough concentrate to make up 500 trigger bottles when diluted with water to the correct dilution.

Environmental Impact

The manufacturers not adding in all that water means that concentrated cleaning products can provide a whole range of benefits to the environment as well as to your pocket.

Reduced packaging needs- the average 5L concentrate bottle can be the equivalent of 500 individual ready to use trigger bottles. By investing in reusable bottles (or reusing ones you already own!) and using concentrated products you could save 500 bottles worth of plastic from being created. Some cleaning products come in recyclable bottles now, but the sad fact is that the majority of these bottles still end up in landfill. Buying in bulk increases this benefit even further, a 2L bottle vs a 1L bottle uses half the amount of plastic per litre. If you’re a bigger business needing to use vast amounts of cleaning product regularly, the impact you can have is huge.

We did the maths on our exclusive Super Professional H15 Concentrated Citra Cleanse. As it makes up 500 diluted bottles you could save 29.3kg of plastic waste over the lifespan of the product. This is when comparing the weight of plastic packaging used when purchasing a 5L concentrate container and one refill bottle to purchasing 500 ready to use bottles. Think about your business and how quickly you get through multi-purpose cleaners, you may be able to get through 500 bottles sooner than you think!

This reduction in the size of products needing to be transported also means less fuel and resources are needed, leading to fewer lorries on the road transporting goods across the country or even further afield and a reduced carbon footprint.

If you’re interested in reducing your environmental impact and carbon footprint then you should be considering how you can use concentrated cleaning products in your operation.

There are also a whole host of other benefits that you can enjoy:
  • Reduced storage needs – maximise the space in your business premises by not having to store large, unwieldy products that are mostly made up of water.
  • Less time spent ordering replacement products. A 5L concentrate could last you months or years depending on your business. Easily stock up and plan ahead for the essential cleaning products.
  • High performing chemicals. If you’re currently buying ready to use cleaners from high-street manufacturers you could be missing out on the potential cleaning power of these concentrated products, designed for commercial use but applicable to home or business.
