International Nurses' Day - 12th May 2020

Each year, International Nurses' Day is celebrated on 12 May, the anniversary of Florence Nightingale's birth.

This occasion has been celebrated since 1965 as a way to highlight the amazing work being done by nurses all over the world. This year it is even more special as it also marks the 200th anniversary of Nightingale’s birth and falls within the World Health Organisation’s Year of the Nurse and Midwife.

Nurses count for more than a half of the world’s healthcare workers and carry out vital work in every corner of the globe. The theme for this year’s International Nurses’ day is Nursing the World to Health, which seems even more fitting given the circumstances we find ourselves in over the past few months. This year our nurses are all united in the fight against COVID-19 and are vital in the response to the outbreak. Nurses all over the world are risking their own health to keep families safe from the pandemic.

We want to take this opportunity to thank our nuses for everything they do, every single day but never more so important in these current times.

Join us in shining a light for our nurses today. The UK is being encouraged to come together and shine a light from their windows at 8:30pm to mark this special day.
